Prague residents bid a symbolic farewell to the end of the coronavirus crisis last night in Prague at a mass dinner on Charles Bridge, complete with a 515-meter-long table with seating for 2,000.

What might be a once-in-a-lifetime event, Prostřený Karlův most (Table-set Charles Bridge) was organized by local entrepreneur Ondřej Kobza, whose previous projects have included placing pianos and chessboards across the streets of the city.

While the dinner was free to attend, a limit of 2,000 guests were invited to register via the online ticketing platform GoOut in help organizers manage the crowd size. Registered guests were given stickers and invited to sit at the lengthy table running down the Prague landmark, but the bridge was not closed to other pedestrians.

The table was mostly empty at 18:00, but seats were tough to find by 19:30; many more than 2,000 people were estimated to have attended.

Diners brought their own food and drink, and were invited to share with others. Despite lingering concerns over the coronavirus crisis, most were more than happy to do so. Later in the evening, leftovers were still available down the table to be consumed by passers-by.

The mood was jovial as musicians and other entertainers performed along the bridge. If this truly is the end of the coronavirus crisis in Prague, this was an incredible way to celebrate it.
