Prague 5 to build new Smíchov Terminal to connect train, metro, tram, and bus traffic

An extensive new transport terminal is set to be built in Prague 5’s Smíchov district in the upcoming years, as Prague city councillors have this week approved plans for the 3 billion crown project.

Tentatively named Smíchov Terminal, the new infrastructure will connect train, metro, bus and tram traffic and serve as a major transport hub in Prague 5.

The new transportation terminal will encompass the current Smíchovské nádraží (Praha-Smíchov Railway Station), itself set to undergo extensive repairs beginning this year.

In addition to the Smíchov Railway Station, Smíchov Terminal will also feature a new bus station, parking lot, and pedestrian footbridge.

Construction will also involve major renovations to busy Nádražní Street, along with work at adjacent Dobříšská Street, where the Park + Ride parking lot is slated to be built.

The total cost of the project is estimated at 2.9 billion crowns.

Set to be built on the site of the former Smíchov Freight Station, construction on Smíchov City is expected to begin later this year.

According to the Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC), reconstruction of the main building at the Smíchov Railway Station will begin this year and be completed by 2021-2022. Further work on additional buildings will continue through 2025.
