A Kaufland grocery store in Prague 6 faced serious health violations after the State Agricultural and Food Inspection (SZPI) discovered a significant insect infestation in its flour section.

During an inspection on Oct.18, inspectors found numerous worms, cobwebs, pupae, and flying insects not only in packages of flour but also on shelves and the floor.

"Our inspectors found the presence of a large number of insect pests and traces of their effects," the SZPI stated in a Facebook post. The inspection revealed that the infestation was extensive, with insects present in the product packaging and within the store's infrastructure.

The alarming findings prompted immediate action, leading to the closure of the affected area, which included not just flour but also sugar, salt, legumes, sweeteners, and baking mixes.

After the store's staff addressed the identified deficiencies, the SZPI conducted a follow-up inspection. They determined that the conditions had been rectified, allowing the store to reopen the impacted section.

Kaufland, a popular German supermarket chain in the Czech Republic, has not yet issued a public statement addressing the infestation, which was discovered in the store's Podbaba location.
