After a break for the winter, Prague's public transport ferries are once again bringing passengers between the banks of the Vltava river as of this weekend. A total of six ferries are in operation this year, one less than in 2021, according to information from Prague Integrated Transport.

Due to the limited number of bridges in the Czech capital, ferry travel can save time for those looking to get across Prague's main waterway by public transport without taking a lengthy detour.

A ride on the ferries is included in the price of a Prague public transport pass or ticket, and can make for a pleasant excursion on the river regardless of the need to save time on a public transport journey.

Two Prague ferries operate all-year-round. Those are the P1 from Sedlec to Zámky and P2 from Podbaba to Podhoří, which provide essential travel between neighborhoods that don't have easily-accessible alternatives by public transport. The 'P' in the ferry name stands for přívoz (ferry); don't confuse it with a Prague district.

This year, the P6 ferry from Lahovičky to Modřany was put into operation in January as an alternative to the 165 bus line, which has been detoured due to road construction.

As of this weekend, three additional ferries have joined those already in operation for the 2022 season, and will operate for the next seven months through the end of October.

Those include the P3 ferry from Lihovar to Dvorce and the P5 ferry from Císařská louka to Podskalská Výtoň. The P5 ferry has modified its route this year and added an additional stop at Kotevní , which replaces operation of the former P4 ferry.

The popular P7 ferry from Holešovice to Karlín is also up and running as of this weekend. It no longer stops at Štvanice Island in-between the Prague districts this year due to the construction of a new footbridge at the former ferry stop. The footbridge will completely replace operation of this ferry once completed this autumn.

Most Prague ferries run every 15-20 minutes, up to every 10 minutes at peak times. They operate during the day throughout the spring and summer, from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
