Maybe you’re not like me. This year’s fest also features a high-profile local premiere in Stoker, starring Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska, the highly-anticipated English-language debut of director Park Chan-Wook (Oldboy). The psychological family thriller just premiered at Sundance a few weeks ago to (mostly) positive reviews, and should see a wide release in Prague later this year.

Below is the full lineup for Kino Aero’s six-day fest, along with some brief comments and projection notes. Outside of the Santo movie, all films are English-friendly. Check out the festival website (only partially translated in English) for full details.

Tuesday, March 5:

• 18:00 S&M Hunter: why shouldn’t the fest open with Japanese pinku; for the uninitiated, expect some extreme content (in Japanese with English subtitles) (DVD projection)
• 20:30 Stoker: the fest’s one mainstream(ish) offering; get your tix early (in English) (HD projection)

Wednesday, March 6:

• 18:00 Midori: The Girl in the Freak Show + The Death Lullaby: obscure low-budget anime; the fest has put up a couple clips on YouTube (in Japanese with English subtitles) (DVD projection)

• 20:30 Trash Humpers: I’m a fan of director Harmony Korine, but ten minutes of this film – a found footage spoof featuring actors in old-age suits raising a ruckus – goes a long way (in English) (DVD projection)

Thursday, March 7:

• 18:00 Beyond the Black Rainbow: this trippy Canadian sci-fi from director Panos Cosmatos (son or Rambo director George P. Cosmatos) has already built up some significant cult cred since its 2010 release (in English) (Blu-ray projection)
• 20:30 Demons: an 80s splatter classic from director Lamberto Bava (son of horror icon Mario Bava); don’t bring your mother, but this one skews more cult-mainstream then most of the other films presented (in Italian with English subtitles) (Blu-ray projection)

Friday, March 8:

• 18:00 Santo vs. the Ghost of the Strangler: 60s luchador horror; in Spanish with Czech subtitles, but you aren’t missing much without the dialogue (DVD projection)
• 20:00 America 3000: Obscure Golan-Globus low-budget post-apocalyptic oddity; expect 80s awesome awfulness (in English) (VHS projection)
• 22:00 D’Wild Wild Weng: Weng Weng, the three-foot Filipino star of the Agent 00 James Bond spoofs, stars in this unearthed Pinoy Western (in English) (VHS projection)

Saturday, March 9:

• 16:45 Aero Naslepo: “Blind Date with Aero”, Shockproof edition: you won’t know the movie until it starts playing, and only pay afterward what you think it should cost; already seen it? Leave after 10 minutes for a free beer at the bar. 
• 19:00 Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead: though not for the uninitiated, this zombie KFC sendup is one of schlock studio Troma’s better comedy-horror efforts (in English) (“Brown-ray” projection)
• 21:30 Stitches: zombie clown comedy-horror from Ireland (in English) (Blu-ray projection)

• 23:30 Ogenki Clinic Adventures: obscure Bakunyū (“bursting breasts”) hentai weirdness; warning: this is probably this year’s most explicit exhibit (in English) (DVD projection)

Sunday, March 10:

• 16:00 Poor Pretty Eddie: cult classic Southern-fried grindhouse fare with Leslie Uggams, Shelly Winters, and Slim Pickens; a favorite among bad movie aficionados (in English) (Blu-ray projection)
• 18:00 Animalada: this love story about a man and a sheep should be easier to take than The Pig Fucking Movie, which I caught at the fest a few years back (in Spanish, English subtitles) (DVD projection)
• 20:00 Motel Hell: the fest closes with the only HD presentation apart from Stoker in this 80s horror parody starring Rory Calhoun as a farmer who plants living victims in his garden; “it takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent’s fritters” (in English) (HD projection)
