Spring break trends are shifting for Czechs this year, with a noticeable uptick in mountain trips, according to data from the Czech Association of Tour Operators and Travel Agents provided to Czech News Agency. According to recent reports, ski vacations have grown in popularity, with an 11 percent rise in the number of people heading to the slopes.

While many are opting for familiar Alpine destinations in countries such as Austria and Italy, some are branching out to more tropical retreats as well. Destinations like Bangkok and Dubai remain popular for those seeking warmer climates. The evolving trends highlight a growing preference for diverse vacation options during the spring holiday season.

While more Czechs are choosing mountains over beaches this year, the demand for both types of getaways is still on the rise. Here’s a breakdown of the trends influencing Czech travelers during this season.

Increase in domestic and international ski trips

According to research from KB Pojišťovna, many Czechs prefer a shorter ski trip, with some spending up to seven days in the mountains. Popular destinations include domestic ski resorts, as well as Austria, Italy, and Slovakia. The Alps continue to be a major draw for those venturing abroad, with an increasing number of tourists heading to these regions for skiing and other winter activities.

With ski holidays becoming more expensive, many families are opting for shorter stays. Travel agencies have seen a rise in bookings for 4-5 night stays at resorts in Italy and Austria. Families also commonly book their trips months in advance, with September and October being the peak months for securing spring break packages.

Travel experts advise against waiting until the last minute for better deals, as availability is often limited at this time of year. Some travelers, however, are still able to score last-minute deals, especially for short stays in the Alps or beachfront getaways.

Sunny beach destinations still popular

For those looking to escape the cold, destinations like the Maldives, Mauritius, and Bali are gaining popularity among Czech travelers this year. However, the most popular warm-weather destination for spring break remains Thailand, with Krabi and Bangkok among the most-booked trips.

Dubai and Sri Lanka also make up a sizable portion of Czech bookings for tropical retreats. European beach destinations, such as the Canary Islands and Spain, are also expected to see significant traffic from Czech tourists.

For last-minute bookings, Czech families can still find availability in destinations like Egypt’s Red Sea resorts, including Hurghada and Marsa Alam, where sunny weather and temperatures exceeding 20°C provide a much-needed reprieve from the winter chill.

Some hotels and resorts offer deals for shorter stays, making beach vacations an appealing option for travelers hoping to catch the tail end of the spring break season.

In the Czech Republic, spring break holidays in local schools are staggered from early February through to mid-March, with different regions around the country allocated a specific week for their holidays.
