CZ OMG Gin and Hot Dogs

More hotdogs in Prague, this time a few steps from Anděl metro at Bar…Coming Soon. This cool blue bar owned by two even cooler guys, Jakub and Filip, offers a signature hot dog with gourmet toppings and summer’s best cocktails: try a Maracuja daiquiri or a G&T made from the first-ever distilled herbal Czech gin, OMG gin from Žufánek distillery. Wash it all down with live music from Niceland, Holden Caufield, or Messy Mind, DJs, or a beach-themed party (all on the line-up for August). 

Prague’s Fastest Food Delivery App to Date?

A new app called Ordr promises the fastest lunch delivery service in Prague to date…with a catch: you have to live or work in Prague 1 to get your lunch in 10 minutes from the time you place an order. One meal is offered daily for around 100 CZK; recently on the menu Lasagna alla bolognese, grilled chicken with fetuccine and parmigiano, dark beer pork steak with potatoes, and honey pork ribs with pumpkin potatoes. Food is prepared at the Chefparade kitchen by a former Gordon Ramsay protégé. I tried and can confirm the unbeatable delivery time (7 minutes to be exact!). But the meal was ordinary and the serving was small. Expansion is planned for Karlín in the coming weeks.

New Farm Markets Minus the Masses

If you are tired of spending Saturdays at mobbed Náměstí Míru or Náplavka, the newly opened family-owned Farma Letná near Letenské náměstí (not to be confused with this place) will be your new favorite shop. Selling Czech products from regional farmers, but also prosciuttos from Spain and Italian goodies, the daughter of the owner told me that they personally pick, choose, and taste every single fruit, vegetable or dairy product they resell.

Another market that recently caught our eye is in a small passage off Jindřišská Street. Eat-it! market sells bio meat, English-style sauces, vegetables, and, our favorite, delicious tofu spreads (tofu with seaweed, sprouts, pickles, smoked tofu and tomato or tempeh spreads). You will also find spelt, raw and buckwheat products, fresh herbs and much more. 

Burčak is for the birds

Thought it has been around for awhile Záletná Sova, a cozily furnished wine bar and lounge is a new discovery for me and the perfect place to sample burčák the partially fermented young wine only available at this time of year. You can also order a nice selection owhite, rosé and red wines, sparkling wines, cocktails and alcohol liqueurs to sip with delicacies like French sausages (with mushrooms, chestnuts, goat cheese, figs), French pâtés (deer and Armagnac, boar and juniper berries, deer with mushrooms and duck breast flavors) and variety of cheeses, olives and filled peppers.

What is a bistro without a romantic story background! She loves to cook, he loves wine. She wanted her own bakery, he wanted a wine cellar. They shared their dreams and created a Den Noc, a special place where you can brunch by day and taste a wide selection of wines at night. But the big story here is the fact that Den Noc serves almost 20 varieties of American-style pancakes from savory cheddar and green onion to sweet gingerbread with plum marmalade and sour cream.

FREE Picnic basket for first 500

This year’s F.O.O.D. picnic starts at 11 am and you’ve got a good reason to get there on time: the first 500 attendees will be receive a picnic basket full of food and drink for free! Check out famous Czech chefs Zdeněk Pohlreich and Martin Poláček who will do live versions of their cooking shows as well as interesting personalities and vendors such as Gianfranco Coizza (Ingredientista), Mixit, Punkrockcakes, and Choco loco.

A Czech-Style Momo Dumpling?

Besides delicious homemade raspberry pie and irresistable mini-burgers, the newly reopened and extended Bistro 8 near Strossmayerovo náměstí is currently making a momo dumpling (a breaded Neplali delicacy which typically consists of pork belly, pickles and spring onion) for Prague palates. Called the “knedlo-vepřo-zelo to go”, wash it down with a lavender or melissaa lemonade.

Oversweetened ice cream beware! The frozen yogurt revolution has arrived in Prague. The new Yogoterie self-service stand that lets you pull your own and decorate it with as many sprinkles as you’d like, Martina, one of the founders says: “After a frozen yogurt You don’t have to worry about how big of a dinner to allow yourself when it’s followed by frozen yogurt.”
