What to do this weekend in Prague: Best events for Feb. 28–March 2

The Femnomenal Nature exhibition by Prague-based artist Irene Antonez opens on March 1 at Ye's kafe, running through March 31. Featuring intricate, psychedelic-inspired paintings, the exhibit explores the deep connection between femininity and the natural world, blending biological precision with mythic energy. The opening vernissage takes place from 7–9 p.m., with additional art talks and classes to be announced.

The 12th annual Spectaculare Festival, running from Feb. 28 to April 6, will transform Prague into a hub of immersive audiovisual art, blending cutting-edge electronic, ambient, and jazz music with contemporary dance, film screenings, and interactive installations. The festival brings together global and local artists to create a multi-sensory experience across venues like SaSaZu, Archa Theatre, and the Prague Conservatory. Highlights include a live set by Kiasmos, the Gram Kosmu visual art exhibition, and a special World Piano Day concert by Henrik Lindstrand.

On Saturday, the square in front of KRO Vršovice will come alive with Masopust festivities. Organized by restaurants Alma and KRO, the event will feature traditional and modern pork feast specialties cooked over an open fire, sweet carnival pastries from KRO Bakery, beer from Vinohradský Pivovar, and spirits from Lihovar Poněšice. The celebration will be accompanied by DJs from the Never Enough collective, a fire show in the evening, and the chance to purchase a special Masopust apron in collaboration with Knedlo Zelo Wear.

Madball, the renowned New York hardcore band, returns to Prague on Sunday as part of their Rebellion Tour at Lucerna Music Bar. Come along for some thrash-infused hardcore rock music while also seeing Australia's Speed, the British Guilt Trip, Boston's Death Before Dishonor, and the Netherlands' Lies!. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Madball’s most iconic albums include "Set It Off" and "Demonstrating My Style”, which helped define the hardcore genre.

The Pragueshorts Film Festival is an international competition showcasing the best and most current short films not available on platforms like Netflix. Films featured include works by renowned directors such as Spike Jonze and Denis Villeneuve, as well as thematic sections like skateboarding films and women's perspectives through female directors. The event also offers a virtual reality zone at the National Technical Library with free entry, and special screenings for children at Kino Aero and BIO OKO.

The 18th Eigasai Japanese Film and Culture Festival runs will culminate this weekend at Prague's Kino Lucerna. It features six evening films exploring the roles of men and women in Japanese society, all with Czech and English subtitles. On March 1, a Japanese Cultural Day offers workshops, traditional performances, and cuisine. This year's theme, "The World of Men and The World of Women," delves into the roles and dynamics of men and women in Japanese society through contemporary cinema.

On Saturday, the Kobyliský Masopust will take place at Dvůr Kobylisy, organized in collaboration with Ampi and supported by Prague 8. The event features a festive masked parade at 11 a.m., live music, a raffle, and a variety of traditional treats, from sausages to trdelník. Vinárna U Myšky will serve mulled wine, hot Aperol, and warm strawberry juice for children, while the evening celebrations will continue at the newly opened former Orient cinema.

On Saturday, OX Club in Prague will host a Shrek Rave, an immersive event featuring DJs playing Shrek-themed hits and party anthems, live performances, singalongs to "I'm A Believer," themed visuals, giveaways, and Shrek-inspired drinks. Attendees are encouraged to dress in green or as their favorite Shrek character, with a prize awarded for the best costume. The event is for ages 18 and over.
