Prague will participate in the Virtual City Walks program, which will offer a tour of six world capitals focusing on their design and architecture.

Virtual City Walks has teamed up with various cities across the globe as well as the Center for Architecture and Urban Planning (CAMP), with coronavirus restricting travel and movement throughout the world.

The tours will offer historical and iconic views of cities including Chicago, Boston, Prague, New York City, Los Angeles, and Copenhagen. Between Jan 30 and March 6, viewers will have the opportunity to walk through the cities from the comfort of their homes and get to know more about architecture from the perspective of leading experts.

The program was launched in connection with the successful summer event From City to City, thanks to which CAMP visitors were able to virtually visit five world capitals. In cooperation with the Danish architectural center DAC, the idea was born to organize tours of architecture in other world cities.

The series of virtual tours are organized by The Association of Architecture Organizations (AAO), which includes CAMP. The program will also include the Danish Architecture Center (DAC), Chicago Architecture Center (CAC), Boston By Foot, AIA New York / Center for Architecture and Los Angeles Conservancy.

"For all architectural centers, this is a great opportunity to connect with each other and create a program that is interesting for viewers around the world. It gives us the opportunity to get to know each other better and opens up opportunities for cooperation in the future. We are honored to be a partner of such large architectural centers as, for example, in Chicago," describes Ondřej Boháč, director of the Institute of Planning and Development of the Capital City of Prague.

Each of the cities will offer viewers a program that captures the unique atmosphere of the metropolis. Chicago will present typical modern architecture and an exceptional collection of skyscrapers. The main theme of the walk around Boston will be its transformation since its founding in the 17th century. During the walk, Los Angeles shows that it supports architectural innovation and its structure is very rich. New York has chosen the SoHo district as the main attraction, which has become the home of creative spaces with the transformation of production "lofts".

CAMP will offer a walk around Prague focused on a unique combination of old and new architecture. The guide to the capital will be Adam Gebrian, who will take the audience into surprising corners. For example, Gebrian will show the followers where and how Baroque and Renaissance buildings meet with modernist or contemporary architecture in Prague.

"City Walks are a great event for spectators who are curious and interested in architecture. The pandemic has given our organizations time to learn from each other and build something unique. I believe it could be a test for deeper collaboration on climate change and other pressing global design issues,” said Michael Wood, program director of the Chicago Architecture Center and CEO of the Association of Architecture Organizations.

The walks will take place every Saturday from Jan 30 to March 6 through the Zoom video program, and tickets can be purchased as a package for all six trips for $60.
