10 Autumn Exhibits for Art Lovers In Prague

The coming months see the opening as well as the closing of a number of major exhibits sure to appeal to the resident or visiting art enthusiast in the Czech capital.

The exhibition of international art presents a rare loan – the painting Circle and Spot by the eminent Russian painter, graphic artist, and art theoretician, a pioneer of abstract painting (1866–1944), who painted the iconic oil in 1929.

Prague Castle presents the largest ever exhibition of Czech Impressionism, with 520 paintings by 78 artists loaned by more than fifty state and private institutions (including the National Gallery) on show.

Russian curator Sergej Serov, who asked distinguished designers and graphic artists to express their opinion towards the Russian Revolution, which happened 100 years before, in poster format. Seventy graphic designers from thirty countries participate in the project.

A festival full of comics, zines and illustrations will offer 40 exhibitors plus workshops for grownups and kids, talks with local and international authors, new comic-book releases, and more.

Czech children’s books illustrator Josef Lada, famed for his renderings of the Good Soldier Svejk as well as his traditional scenes of Christmas in the Czech lands is being honored in an exhibit at Prague’s Dancing House that commemorates 130 years since his birth.

Among the first exhibitions in the newly reconstructed space, A Century of Design and Decorative Arts is dedicated to 20th-century design; in March 2018 a retrospective of photographer Josef Koudelka is planned. A new third-floor exhibit space, restaurant, and shop will also open next month.
