#1 This year's biggest summer blockbuster hits Czech cinemas

It's been a slow summer at the cinema box office, but Deadpool & Wolverine hopes to emulate the success of last year's Barbenheimer as it opens locally from Wednesday, July 25. Ryan Reynolds returns as the titular superhero, joined by Hugh Jackman in his tenth featured performance as the adamantium-clawed member of the X-Men. If nothing else, a trip to the multiplex offers some respite from recent surging temperatures in Czechia.

#2 Summer Olympics kick off in Paris, with Czech athletes vying for gold

The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris will officially kick off with an opening ceremony on Friday, July 26 at 7:30 p.m., though some competitions begin on July 24. A total of 113 athletes from the Czech Republic will be competing for medals at this year's games, including Wimbledon champions Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková. In Czechia, an Olympic Village in Most will screen the games and promote athletic events.

#3 Celebrate Peruvian independence in Prague

Prague 7 cultural venue L10 will celebrate the anniversary of Peru's independence with a party featuring typical Peruvian dishes and drinks and a performance by the traditional music group Criolla on Friday, July 26. The event will also showcase a craft fair representing Peru's Andean identity and cultural heritage. Dance performances will add to the festivities with classic Latin American dances, including cumbia, chicha, salsa, son, and cha-cha.

#4 Summer Film School returns to Uherské Hradiště

One of the longest-running film festivals in Czechia, the 50th edition of Summer Film School in Uherské Hradiště runs from July 26 to August 1. This year, honored guests will include Hungarian director Ildikó Enyediová and French director Arnaud Desplechin. The festival will feature their works along with screenings of films by Federico Fellini and music by Czech composer Zdenek Liška. The event will also showcase New Hollywood cinema and films from Tunisia.

#5 Ed Sheeran plays two concerts in Hradec Králové

One of the music world's biggest stars is coming to the Czech Republic this weekend as British singer Ed Sheeran comes to Hradec Králové's multifunctional Park 360 for a pair of concerts on July 27-28. The Saturday concert quickly sold out, but tickets to the Sunday gig are still available. The concerts mark Sheeran's first visit to the Czech Republic since 2019, and offer a unique experience with stands completely surrounding the venue's circular stage.
