Beware of tram lockouts but...

Starting Nov. 25, tram services on Prague’s Libeň Bridge will be suspended indefinitely due to structural concerns heightened by cold weather. The Prague Public Transport Company (DPP) will replace trams with buses, rerouting lines 1, 6, 14, and 25. Temporary lines 12 and 94 will be permanently redirected, and the X25 bus service will connect key stops. DPP advises passengers to plan ahead, with details on its website.

...Cross the bridge once again

After extensive repairs, all eight lanes of the Barrandov Bridge in Prague reopened to traffic at 1 p.m. Sunday. The bridge’s complete reconstruction, which began in May 2022, has been completed a year ahead of schedule. However, costs increased from CZK 594.5 million to CZK 1.14 billion due to the use of modern concrete. The final phase of surface restoration is set for next year with no further traffic restrictions.

Visit a charitable Christmas market

While the first Christmas markets opened last week, this weekend sees design markets and charity markets getting underway, among them Mint Market in Prague on Nov. 30 and the Diplomatic Spouses Association Charity Market on Dec. 1. These markets offer alternatives to the larger more tourist-filled advent kiosks with offerings by local makers and support of Czech charities.

Explore a digital portal to Ireland

A virtual gateway connecting Brno, Czech Republic, and Waterford, Ireland, allows people to greet each other across 2,000 kilometers in the lead-up to Christmas. The portal, embedded in Brno’s “O” sign and styled like a megalithic gate in Waterford, has become a popular Advent attraction. Open afternoons and evenings, it enables residents to wave, hold signs, and share holiday cheer. The project celebrates each city's holiday spirit and traditions. Brno is this year's designated European Capital of Christmas.

Movember: Over but not really

Movember, a global campaign for men’s health, raises awareness of prostate and testicular cancer prevention and mental health. In Czechia, the Men Against Cancer Foundation leads the movement by encouraging men to grow mustaches in November. High-profile supporters, including British Ambassador Matt Field, have helped spotlight cancer screenings. As Movember concludes, the Falkensteiner Spa Resort in Mariánské Lázně, a campaign supporter with a unique Cancer Aftercare Programme emphasizes that cancer prevention is a year-round commitment.
