Game of Thrones-style jousting and related activities will come to Prague Castle this weekend as part of the first edition of the Great Knight Festival (Velké rytířské slavnosti), which will take place on July 11 & 12 from 11:00 to 19:00.
The festivities will unfold at the Castle’s Deer Moat, by the western wing (easily accessible from the Prague Castle tram stop).
Visitors can look forward to jousting battles, 45-minute performances that will take place daily at 13:00, 15:00, and 17:00, along with other riding and stunt performances from actors dressed as medieval knights.
Other displays include medieval armor and weaponry, catapults, mining equipment, and a special crane designed to lift armored knights onto horses. Musicians in medieval garb will play throughout the festival.
Food appropriate for the time, including sausages roasted over an open flame, can also be expected.
Children will have the opportunity to learn fencing with the knights, and take place in activities including shirt making, writing with quilted pens, and more.
Tickets to the festival run 150 CZK for adults. Children, students, and seniors pay 80 CZK.
Later this summer, Prague Castle will open its doors for concerts from two prominent US musicians: Gary Clark Jr., who performed for President Obama at the White House in 2012, will perform on July 20, while jazz musician Dr. John will perform on August 6.
