Last week saw the debut of lithium-ion-battery-powered buses in Prague, reports iDnes. Launched last Wednesday, bus lines BB1 and BB2, manufactured by Czech company SOR, were dispatched to transport passengers from metro station Budějovická to BB Centrum Brumlovka.
The free shuttles, deployed by private bus operator Arriva Praha, hold 73 passengers and can travel up to 150 km on a single charge. They take from 7 to 8 hours to recharge.

The electric buses will replace two of three diesel buses that have been serving the same route. In addition to lessening emissions in this densely populated area of Prague, it is hoped that the buses will reduce noise pollution and decrease connection wait times during the morning and afternoon rush hours.
