Last year, Prague City Council started a project to develop a new pond in the capital's Letná Park close to the Prague Metronome. After completing it earlier this year, the city has now unveiled plans to add two new fountains and other water features to the area.
"People will get more places to rest in the hot summer and other times of the year," Jana Komrsková, Deputy Mayor of Prague for the Environment and Climate Plan, said about the project. The total cost of the pond was about CZK 15 million.
She added that ponds are an important landscape-forming element, as their revitalization and restoration are important for fulfilling the climate plan and cooling the local climate.
Developers will establish an electricity connection to the local pumping station and construct a storm sewer system to facilitate water drainage from the Metronome to the pond. No timeline has been set yet for the fountains' completion, but the city says they will be completed in the "coming years."
The Capital City Council earlier this year approved an investment in the revival of two Prague ponds and the placement of fountains in Letná. In addition, the investment includes the overall transformation of the surrounding area and the addition of fountains and other water elements making Letná a friendlier place both for the people of Prague and its wildlife.
