Prague's popular Vyšehrad beer garden will reopen under new operators

The classic Vyšehrad beer garden Na Hradbách will sadly close down for good at the end of this month, as the company's lease for the location runs out after 20 years of operation.

Thankfully, fans of the outdoor venue and Vyšehrad locals won't be without their favorite beer garden this summer season. The team behind popular Karlín beer garden Přístav 18600 has won a tender to take over operation of the venue, the company has announced on social media.

The Na Hradbách beer garden is located at Bastion XXXIV, part of the Vyšehrad fortress complex and a registered cultural landmark in Prague. The reason for the cancellation of Na Hradbách's lease was not revealed, but the pub did not seem to be happy about the move.

"Truth and love don't prevail too much over lies and hate these days," Na Hradbách wrote on Facebook at the end of last year.

"Unfortunately, there is another loss in this direction and with regret we have to inform you that Pub Na Hradbách, as you know it for 20 years, closes its operations, thanks to one person in particular, on February 28, 2023. It has been amazing 20 years, we thank you with tears. Come and say goodbye until the end of February."

The Přístav 18600 team, meanwhile, was more than happy to win a tender for the lease last month. The company has operated its chill riverside Karlín location for the past decade, and branched out to another nearby space, Long Island Libeň, for two summer seasons in 2018 and 2019.

Their new location, meanwhile, boasts some of the best views of Prague from the hilltops of Vyšehrad and is located within the confines of one of the Czech capital's most beloved landmarks.

"We're full of joy and we want to share it with you," Přístav 18600 wrote on Facebook on Friday. "We were chosen by NKP Vyšehrad as the new operators of Bastion XXXIV, where after years the legendary pub Na Hradbách closed. For real."

"It is great that this exceptional place should continue to function as a living space for visitors to Vyšehrad and residents of its immediate surroundings [...] It will be a beautiful challenge and we will be glad if you find your way to us this spring - now also at Vyšehrad!"
