More than 200,000 voters have taken part in the 2019 poll for the best Christmas markets in Europe at European Best Destinations, who run annual surveys to determine Europe’s top places to visit throughout the year.
And the winner is… Tallinn, Estonia. Which does look pretty festive.
Still, that’s enough to beat out most of Europe’s most-visited cities, including London, Paris, Rome, and others.
“Christmas in Prague has an unforgettable atmosphere,” states the description at European Best Destinations.
“The unique atmosphere of the medieval central Prague makes the Christmas markets at the Old Town Square very popular. In contrast to some bigger markets in Europe, the Prague Christmas market has a familiar feel which somehow makes the whole experience more intense.”
Intense is right, with an estimated 600,000 tourists expected to visit Prague’s Christmas markets this holiday season.
We’re partial to Prague’s Christmas markets, naturally, though the excessive crowds in recent years can be a turnoff in Old Town and Wenceslas Squares.
For a less-busy Christmas market experience in Prague, check out the festive markets at Náměstí Míru and other locations outside of Prague’s city center.
