Hradec Králové’s Festival Park flings open its gates this July 2 for four days of rock-fueled fun in the sun. The 18-year-old music festival, considered one of the best in Europe, attracts up to 30,000 people annually, who travel from all over the Czech Republic and beyond to revel in the summer sun, drink local pivo, swim in the nearby lake, and dance all night to top tunes.

Bigger and better than ever
L.A. rockers 30 Seconds to Mars, the alternative rock three-piece, known for their experimental style and famous frontman, actor Jared Leto, will be add a dash of star quality to the festival proceedings. American rock-gods Queens of The Stone Age will also be among the many high-profile bands slated to play the four-day festival.

Expect additional performances from Foals, Bloc Party, Klaxons, Parov Stelar Band, Billy Talent, Papa Roach, and Gogol Bordello to name just a few. DJing workshops, film screenings, and other activities round out the entertainment offerings.

The festival park site serves as the perfect location for RfP. The spacious former airfield has been created specifically for musical and sporting events, with 330,000 square meters of wide open space, bordered by large trees to shade against the sun, housing the main stages.

Go by car, train…or bike
Hradec Králové is less than two hours from Prague by car. RfP, in conjunction with Czech Railway, is offering a Train + Rock for People 2013 ticket. This special fare allows the user a discounted journey to and from Hradec Králové (approximately 90 minutes from Prague’s Hlavní Nádraží). The discounted price is only available after validating the purchased ticket at the RfP Info Centre. (Failure to validate a purchased ticket at the Festival’s Info Centre will result in the traveller paying full price for the return journey). From Hradec Králové’s train station fest-goers can catch one of the specially marked (and free) festival shuttle buses which travel to and from the festival site throughout the day.

For a less conventional journey route, Rock for People organizers have planned an exhilarating Prague to Hradec Králové bike ride—a healthy way to get to the festival plus a guaranteed great time along the way. The two-day trip starts in Prague (Kolín) and ends in glorious Hradec Králove, with riders covering about 65 km per day. The route is demanding so extra luggage will be carried in an escort vehicle, leaving cyclists with the vital post-bike-ride energy required for this four-day rock fest.

See you there!

As in previous years feel free to drop in on the Expats.cz meeting point where you’ll find helpful information about the festival and surrounding areas in both the English and German languages. RfP has compiled a truly quality line-up of bands and DJs, check the regularly updated website to keep current with news and updates from festival HQ.
